On location......

This commission was to make an accurate, and detailed record of this important 24ft wide by 6 ft high tapestry. The tapestry is the work of the Abergavenny Tapestry Group, who stitched it over a period of about five years, to mark the Millennium, to a design created by Susie Martin.

The brief required that 'every strand in every thread' should be clearly recorded with the maximum fidelity of colour and tone.

The finished file just fitted onto a DVD. In terms of megapixels it's in the order of two thousand. Such a high resolution and accuracy could not be achieved in any other way.

After the photography was completed, we then carefully colour matched the digital capture to the actual tapestry, again working on location.

An immediate application has been the production of sixteen postcards showing detail from various areas. This number is expected to steadily increase, and the original photography will be drawn on in many other ways in the years to come.

Having an accurate record of such high quality means that should a disaster ever happen, a same size replacement could be made that did full justice to the original work.
